According to a 1996 report by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, funded by the World Bank and the United Nations, 72 acres of rainforest are destroyed every minute, mostly by impoverished people who are cutting and burning the forest to create agricultural or pasturelands to grow beef for export to the United States... The most common reason why people are destroying most of the South and Central American rainforests is corporate greed: the American meat habit has provided an economic boom to multinational corporate ranchers, and it is the primary reason behind the destruction of the tropical rainforests of the Americas.

Our popular scented candles measure approximately 2" high x 3½-4" in diameter and are made from the pod of a Brazil Nut tree collected in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru. The pod, a 'waste' item, originally contained Brazil Nuts which are sustainably harvested and sold in the local market. The pods are then made into candles providing harvesters with additional income. The Brazil Nut candle is handmade from renewable resources and your purchase is helping to protect the forest for future generations.

TAGUA NUT CRAFTS
The crafts below are hand carved by artisans in Ecuador from sustainably harvested tagua, the ivory-like nut of the tagua palm tree. The nuts are harvested as part of a program helping to protect endangered South American rainforests by promoting the use of renewable resources. Tagua nuts help forest-based gatherers and artisans earn a living by managing the forest instead of cutting it down. In additon, it helps keep real ivory where it belongs, on living animals.
Since each tagua nut is unique, every item below is a one-of-a-kind. Experience it!
